To be eligible for this SEED funded position, the candidate (student) must:

  • be a resident of New Brunswick (must have lived in New Brunswick for at least 6 months) or a First Nation community in New Brunswick;
  • be eligible to work in Canada (must have a valid SIN number);
  • NOT be an immediate family member (spouse, children, parent, brother or sister) of the employer; 
  • be a high school student entering grade 10, 11 or 12 in September 2025; OR 
  • be a full-time grade 12, university or college student in the current academic year of 2024-2025 AND be attending a post-secondary institution full-time in the fall of 2025.

SEED Program Eligibility

Both positions are funded through Working NB's Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program. Before applying for either position, ensure you're eligible for the program. 

The Communications Assistant plays a key role in supporting the sanctuary’s donor relations and community outreach efforts through clear and impactful communication. Responsibilities include drafting personalized donor acknowledgments, preparing engaging impact updates, and creating educational materials that highlight the sanctuary’s mission and work. The assistant will represent the sanctuary at community events, assist in fostering partnerships with local organizations, and contribute to the development of outreach campaigns and materials.

This position provides hands-on experience in written and oral communication, public engagement, and relationship-building. The assistant will develop skills in event coordination, content creation, and partnership development while gaining insight into effective messaging strategies and community outreach practices. These experiences will build a strong foundation for future roles in communications, public relations, or community engagement.

The Facilities and Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the sanctuary’s indoor and outdoor spaces to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for animals, staff, and visitors. Duties include landscaping, repairing fences, maintaining animal shelters, and assisting with construction projects. The worker will also handle repairs and upkeep of indoor and outdoor facilities, tools, and equipment, ensuring all spaces meet safety and operational standards.

This position provides hands-on experience in problem-solving, teamwork, and time management while developing technical skills in construction, repairs, and maintenance. The worker will also gain knowledge of safety protocols, equipment use, and basic project planning, equipping them with transferable skills for careers in facilities management, construction, or operations.

Specifications

  • SEED placements will take place between April 21st and September 5th, 2025.         
  • Candidate must have the flexibility to work any day of the week (most shifts will happen during the week, but some weekends will be required)
  • 35 hours per week at minimum wage for up to 12 weeks.



Qualifications

For both positions:

  • Must meet SEED program eligibility
  • Candidate must have own transportation to the sanctuary located at 9 Clubhouse Lane, Codys
  • Must be a team player and demonstrate a willingness to help others
  • Must be able to communicate with others in a respectful and productive manner 

Additional qualifications for the Facilities and Maintenance Worker position include:

  • Must be comfortable with prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the sanctuary grounds
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical labour including safely lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to bend, lift, push, stoop, stretch, climb, and crawl and other strenuous activities
  • Must be able to regularly perform work in a variety of weather conditions
