When farm animals face neglect or abandonment, who can help them?
Be The Reason
hello@lilysplace.ca
One of the new residents, precious little Klaus, had quite a time over the last few days.
He was neutered on Thursday morning, but had some trouble after waking up and needed to be monitored closely over the next 24-48 hours. We thought it best for him to be monitored by the team at AVC, as they have round-the-clock care, and Klaus would be in the right place if his troubles escalated.
He was brought to AVC on Thursday afternoon and did well overnight (physically), but was stressed without his friend, Ellie. The doctor said she would like to keep him another night and continue monitoring him, but was concerned about how nervous he was.
Klaus had only been in our care for a week and a half at that point, so he barely knew us and was already in another place he didn’t know with people he’d never seen before.
The plan was to bring him home on Friday. However, the windy conditions closed the bridge between NB and PEI to vehicles with trailers, keeping Klaus (and Tim) on the island.
Early this morning, Tim brought Klaus back to the sanctuary just in time to switch trailers and head off on our next rescue. More on that soon.
Thank you to volunteers Meghan and Danielle for covering the barn this morning and keeping an eye on Klaus. After catching up with Ellie, Klaus finally settled in for a good nap, exhausted from the stressful few days he had had. He’s doing well now, but will be on pain meds and antibiotics for a little while yet.
