🎄 Calling all Sanctuary Santa's and Helpful Elves to the Holiday Hub!

2025

August:
Meet Millie 🐑💛

Millie was born on a farm with a birth defect in her back leg. She was evaluated by a vet and deemed unsuitable for breeding or "market". It was decided that they would find her a forever home rather than putting her down or raising her for meat.

Thanks to a compassionate person, the young sheep was given a new name,“Millie”, and brought to live at the sanctuary on August 24th, 2025.

Millie is skittish and around 12 weeks old. Despite her leg, she’s surprisingly fast (and incredibly adorable). She’s still unsure when we approach, but with time, patience, and love, she’ll come to understand she’s safe now.

At the time we’re writing this, Millie is in her quarantine period to ensure she doesn’t carry anything contagious before introductions to the other residents. We’ve set up a temporary space beside the big sheep, with barriers to prevent nose-to-nose contact, where she’ll stay until her quarantine time is up.

UPDATE:
Millie’s First Vet Visit 🐑💛

On Wednesday, August 27th, Millie had her first vet check, and the news was encouraging! The vet is optimistic about her future and doesn’t believe her leg will hinder her quality of life. After witnessing Millie’s impressive parkour skills (yes, she literally jumps off the walls!), it was clear her mobility isn’t holding her back.

Because she’s missing a hoof on her back left leg, she may need a protective bootie like Rosie’s when walking on harder surfaces. But for now, she’s perfectly comfortable in her soft bedding.

Millie uses her leg to help with balance, which is a good sign as her opposite muscles aren't over-compensating too much. However, her mobility may change as she grows, and the shorter limb may become harder to rely on. She’ll likely develop early arthritis, a treatable condition, but for now, she’s thriving, and the road ahead looks promising.

We have high hopes for Millie’s future. She’s safe, supported, and settling into her new life at Lily’s Place with all the love she deserves.

UPDATE:
November, 2025

Millie has become good friends with Annie, another sheep who was rescued as a lamb several years before Millie’s arrival.

Stay tuned for updates on Millie and her journey ahead. We’re so grateful to have her here, and just as grateful for those who make happy "tails" like hers possible.
