Merlin was pretty excited to hear that the sanctuary now has an Olympic luge track! Ok, ok, it’s actually the road to the sanctuary!
The road is less than ideal for volunteers arriving for their animal care shifts. On days like today, it means a long hike up the road due to slippery driving conditions.
However, our volunteer coordinator, Robyn, didn’t let that stop her this morning! After arriving at the top of the road, Robyn renamed the road to “Serenity Hill.”
Why Serenity Hill? Because by the time you walk up the km-long hill, you’re too tired to have a care in the world lol!
Robyn didn’t just walk up the luge track; at the end of her shift, she went down it, too!
With little effort beyond sitting on a crazy carpet, Robyn went for a wild ride at Olympic speeds … and was thankful for the large snowbanks built up all the way down the road. The banks kept her from flying off the road and landing in the pasture (or the lake!)
She had so much fun that she plans to bring an extra-crazy carpet next time so I can join her for “Sanctuary Sledding: A Thrill at Serenity Hill.”
Robyn’s pitch to convince me to join her has already come together: “Serenity Hill: walk up and forget all your anger, slide down and have a new perspective as you watch your life flash before your eyes at Olympic speeds.” lol!!
While the road is a huge challenge for emergency planning, and quite frankly, a nightmare at times, it’s the young-at-heart volunteers like Robyn who keep us laughing with a new way to look at an old problem!
