It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of Quinn.
Quinn came to Lily’s Place on December 18th, one of eight young turkeys who arrived together. She was one of the smaller hens in the group, with the fluffiest little face, curious, gentle, and impossible not to love.
We had noticed that Quinn had been acting a little off. She would seem to bounce back quickly and appeared to be working on her first egg. However, egg material had come out of her, and she was drinking a lot of water. Sophia was near the turkey house when she heard a commotion and spotted a lot of movement on Quinn, Joey, and Mickey’s side of the house. Sophia didn’t hesitate to rush over to see what was happening, and in the few moments it took to get from just outside to inside, Quinn had passed.
While we could speculate about what happened, we took Quinn to the provincial laboratory for a necropsy on Thursday morning so we could get answers. We are hoping to receive the report this coming week.
Joey was Quinn’s closest friend here. She was with Quinn in her final moments, just as she had been for Roo. That is a great deal of loss for one young bird to witness, and it is one more reminder that birds form real bonds and feel these absences, too.
Quinn was here for far too short a time, but she was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
We will share more here when we receive the necropsy results.
Rest in peace, sweet Quinn. May you have the highest roost and the sweetest berries. Rest easy, sweet Quinn.
