It’s time to discuss responsible rescue. This topic sparks strong opinions because it highlights the importance of what happens after rescuing an animal. Let me take you back to my 40th birthday. That day, I found myself cutting through feces-filled mats on the backsides of two sheep. 😳 When Johnny and June arrived, they were […]

One of the new residents, precious little Klaus, had quite a time over the last few days. He was neutered on Thursday morning, but had some trouble after waking up and needed to be monitored closely over the next 24-48 hours. We thought it best for him to be monitored by the team at AVC, […]

Ellie jumps up on the stall door when she hears us coming. She’s only been here a short time and is still in quarantine, yet she’s eager to be close to us. When I enter her stall, she leans her head into my hand like we’ve known each other far longer than we have. She […]

We’re growing our volunteer team! In the new year, there will be even more ways to get involved and help animals, including the two roles in this post. While the new year is a ways off, we’re starting our search now for two friendly, people-loving humans to help us welcome others into the Lily’s Place […]

Poor Merlin was really feeling the cold this morning! Thankfully, his friend Siobhan sent him a warm coat last year, so we pulled it out again today. The animals are always thrown off when one of them is given a coat. Usually, the resident with the coat tries to outrun the coat (that’s on them), […]

Wonder Woman of Lily’s Place, Nancy, lived a short life that started on a small-scale farm, where she broke her leg. Despite the seriousness of her injury, she received no medical treatment, which resulted in the lower part of her limb eventually dying and falling off. She was then passed off to a hobby farm, […]

The Kindness Club Foundation Inc – Vision of Mrs. Aida Flemming was established in 1959, and our “Safe Haven Shelter Expansion” project, which just got funded by the Kindness Club, embodies Aida’s vision when she said, “We have done so much, but there is so much more to do.” This is a major step toward […]

When Tim and I founded Lily’s Place Animal Sanctuary in 2019, our volunteer team could be counted on one hand—and that count included the two of us. We were driven by a vision to provide sanctuary and exceptional care to animals so often dismissed as “just farm animals,” as if they were somehow less deserving […]

The next several weeks are going to be extra busy at Lily’s Place as we prepare for six new rescues, all arriving within a short window. Some are leaving situations that have become dangerous. Others come from a rare circumstance in which animals are seldom given a future at all. Two will be picked up […]

Jessica stopped by Milhouse and Bea’s stall at the large animal hospital at AVC to check on them. Both are doing well, and we hear that Bea is becoming a favourite! Milhouse is, as usual, his happy-go-luck self, and while he was happy to see Jess and greeted her like an old friend, he went […]

We just heard from AVC; Beatrice’s surgery went well! They were able to close up the hernia, and while Bea is still groggy, she’s waking up from surgery well. We were also informed that Milhouse is being a great support buddy. The pair will be able to come home to the sanctuary on Friday.

It’s been a tough week here, and as it seems, good or bad, things come in at least 3s (one, two, three)! We realized a 4th thing tonight when we were notified about an error in the 2026 Calendar prints. You’re getting this email because our system flagged you as someone who either sponsored or purchased a […]

Soft straw, gentle heat, and a little help from their friends (that’s you!) Without straw and heat, winter is harsh — especially for animals who are older, injured, or still recovering. You can make the sanctuary stalls cozy and warm when it matters most. Lily’s Place is built on a promise: to give rescued animals lifelong sanctuary, […]
